Combining Anzio beach with a visit to the beautiful island of Ponza creates a diverse and delightful itinerary.
Don’t forget that this is the best vacation for Romans in June and July. Even if the beauty of Ponza is a secret, it is kept among all the people living in Rome.
Here’s my favorite plan:
Day 1: Arrival in Anzio
- Arrive in Anzio and check into your accommodation.
- Spend the afternoon exploring the historical sites of Anzio, such as the Beachhead Museum and the Villa Adele.
- Enjoy dinner at a local seafood restaurant along the waterfront.
Day 2: Anzio’s Beaches and Relaxation
- Relax on one of Anzio’s scenic beaches, perhaps Lido dei Gabbiani.
- In the afternoon, explore the town center and its charming streets.
- Have dinner at a traditional Italian trattoria.
Day 3: Day Trip to Nettuno and Nature
- Take a day trip to Nettuno to visit the American War Cemetery and pay respects to the fallen soldiers.
- Explore the Tor Caldara Nature Reserve for a nature hike.
- Return to Anzio for a relaxing evening and dinner.
Day 4: Journey to Ponza
- Take a ferry from Anzio to Ponza.
- Arrive on Ponza and check into your accommodation.
- Spend the afternoon exploring the island’s main town, visiting shops, and enjoying a seaside dinner.
Day 5: Discover Ponza’s Beauty
- Explore the stunning beaches of Ponza, such as Chiaia di Luna and Frontone.
- Take a boat tour around the island to discover its hidden coves and natural beauty.
- Enjoy a leisurely dinner at a seaside restaurant.
Day 6: Explore More of Ponza
- Visit the historic Palmarola Island, known for its crystal-clear waters and sea caves, on a boat tour.
- Relax and unwind in the unique atmosphere of Ponza.
- Have a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 7: Departure
- Take a morning ferry back to Anzio.
- If time allows, explore Anzio once more or simply enjoy a relaxing morning.
- Depart from Anzio with wonderful memories of both destinations.
This itinerary combines history, relaxation, and the natural beauty of both Anzio and Ponza. Enjoy your trip!
Certainly! Here’s a possible itinerary for your week-long vacation in Anzio with a day trip to Rome and a day trip to Ponza:
Days 1-3: Anzio
- Explore the historic center of Anzio, visiting Villa di Nerone, the port, and the Anzio Beachhead Museum.
- Enjoy the sea and relax on the local beaches.
- savor local cuisine in one of the restaurants along the promenade.
Day 4: Day trip to Rome
- Depart early for Rome to maximize your time.
- Visit the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon.
- Spend time in Vatican City, including St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums.
Days 5-7: Ponza
- Transfer to Ponza by ferry or hydrofoil.
- Explore the island’s beaches and coves, perhaps with a boat excursion.
- Visit the island’s center, savoring local dishes in typical restaurants.
Make sure to book transportation and accommodations in advance to avoid any inconvenience. Consider also to keep a base-camp in Anzio beach and rent a boat to sail with your captain around the islands.
My itinerary balances culture, relaxation, and natural beauty for a comprehensive vacation.
